Pressure Mounted Pet Gates

Pet gates are a boon when you want to keep your inquisitive pup away from under your feet whilst on a major cleaning operation at home, or to control your friendly dog when guests are around. A pressure-mounted gate stays in position due to the exertion of outward pressure on the walls. It does not require any hardware to install it. Consequently it leaves no marks on the wall. These gates are usually extendable and fit openings of different widths. Thus they can easily be installed in different places as and when you require.

There are two types of pressure-mounted pet gates. The first uses a lever to hold the gate in place. Once you have decided on the location of the gate, adjust its width and place it in the required position. Now pull the lever down. This will create an outward pressure on the walls thus holding the gate in place. The second type uses four adjustment knobs to create a similar pressure. There are two knobs on each side, one on top and one at the bottom.

There are certain situations in which using a pressure mounted pet gate would not be appropriate. For instance, big aggressive dogs may be able to push the gate. Under such a circumstance it would be wiser to opt for a hardware-mounted gate. Most pressure-mounted gates are not ideal for use on a staircase.

Pressure-mounted pet gates are available in diverse designs and in varying widths and lengths to suit different home decors. You’ll find them in plastic, wood and steel finishes. Some have a walk-through or swinging door feature to enable you to move around the house easily while enclosing your dog.
