Housing a hamster

Hamsters are gentle dwarfs and they make for excellent pets. They don’t take up too much accommodation place and it is very easy to keep them happy. Before you bring a hamster home, remember to build a nice house for the little fellow. Hamsters like homes with plenty of ventilation. They don’t need huge cages. Even medium sized hamster cages will do. Just make sure that there is plenty of ventilation. Some people recommend aquariums for hamsters but personally, I feel cages are much better. The advantage that comes with cages is that when you want to increase the size of the cage, you can simply add another storey to the cage without taking up more room on the surface.
Once you pick the cage for the hamster home, select the interior components. Hamsters like to be active and a hamster wheel is a good idea. The wheel helps the hamster exercise and provides him with a recreational activity as well. However, be careful when you are selecting a hamster wheel. If the wheel has rungs then there are chances of injuries occurring. Limbs, baby heads etc, can get caught in the gaps when the rungs are moving. This could cause injuries to the hamster. Be careful and make sure you select a large wheel with broadly spaced rungs. Also, remember to put in a bedding to collect the urination deposits. You can change the bedding every week to keep the hamster home clean.
